November 25, 2005 - This is the heart-stopping moment when a balloon in the Thanksgiving Day Parade struck a lamppost (circled) yesterday, sending the 30-pound fixture plummeting onto the stunned crowd below.
Miraculously, 11-year-old Sarah Chamberlain (right) and her disabled older sister suffered only minor injuries in the near-catastrophe at Seventh Avenue and 43rd Street.
The accident involving the M&M's balloon was a chilling reminder of a disaster in the 1997 parade, when a balloon knocked part of a lamppost onto Central Park West, leaving a woman in a coma.
